Some holidays are relaxing. Some are exciting. But every now and then, a holiday becomes a collection of memories that stay with you for years. Our trip to Phuket, Thailand, was one of those unforgettable experiences.
We travelled to Phuket during the December holiday season with one of our close family friends, whom we had known for many years. Their two children were already good friends with our children, so the holiday felt like a reunion as much as a family trip. From the moment we arrived, the four children were excited to spend time together and their existing friendship made the whole holiday even more enjoyable. They played together, laughed together, explored new places together and of course, created plenty of funny moments and unforgettable memories that we still remember today.
Travelling with another family brought a completely different kind of joy to the trip. The children always had someone to play with, the adults had someone to share the experiences with and every activity became more exciting because we were all experiencing it together.
Among all the adventures we enjoyed in Phuket, our full day island hopping boat tour was undoubtedly one of the highlights. It was not just a boat trip to one island. It was an incredible journey across some of the most famous and beautiful destinations surrounding Phuket, including James Bond Island, Hong Island, Krabi, the Phi Phi Islands, Maya Bay, Bamboo Island and Maiton Island.
An Early Start to a Big Adventure
Our adventure began very early in the morning. The tour started with an early morning pickup from our hotel. We were all staying together with our family friends, so getting everyone ready was already an adventure of its own. When you are travelling with children, especially during a holiday, waking up before sunrise is not always easy!
But on this particular morning, the excitement helped everyone get out of bed. After meeting our transport, we travelled to Chalong Pier in an air conditioned minivan. The children were full of energy and excitement, while the adults were probably still trying to fully wake up. The early morning was quiet, but everyone knew that a very big day was ahead of us.
When we arrived at the meeting point, we had to fill out some forms with our personal details. Breakfast was also provided, so we enjoyed a delicious meal while waiting for the tour to begin. We spent almost an hour there before finally boarding the speedboat and beginning our exciting island hopping adventure.
As the boat began moving across the water, the atmosphere immediately changed. The tiredness of the early morning quickly disappeared. The wind blew across our faces, the sea stretched endlessly around us, and the children were excited to see what would come next.
We were ready for a full day of adventure.

Exploring the Amazing Phang Nga Bay
Our first major destination was the beautiful Phang Nga Bay area. The landscape was completely different from anything we had seen before. Huge limestone cliffs rose dramatically from the emerald green sea, creating one of Thailand's most unforgettable natural landscapes.
The first part of the journey included sightseeing around Panak Island and Hong Island. At Hong Island, we had the opportunity to experience canoeing through the mangrove forest. This was one of the most memorable parts of the day. Instead of simply looking at the islands from the boat, we were able to get closer to nature and explore the quiet waterways. The canoe moved through beautiful natural surroundings, surrounded by cliffs, mangroves and calm water. It felt peaceful and adventurous at the same time.
The speedboat ride itself created many unforgettable moments. The children were extremely excited when the boat started moving faster across the sea. They laughed, shouted with excitement and enjoyed every wave. Meanwhile, the adults were holding on tightly whenever the boat bounced over the waves! We all laughed together because the children thought the bumpy ride was the best part of the adventure.
The children especially enjoyed the experience. Travelling with children can sometimes be unpredictable. One minute they are excited, the next minute they are tired, hungry or arguing over something completely unexpected! But during the canoeing experience, everyone seemed to forget everything else. We were all focused on the beautiful surroundings and enjoying the moment together.

James Bond Island: A Famous Place in Real Life
One of the most famous stops on our itinerary was James Bond Island. Even before visiting Phuket, many people have seen pictures of this unique island. The destination became internationally famous after appearing in the 1974 James Bond movie "The Man with the Golden Gun".

Seeing it in real life was a completely different experience. The famous tall limestone rock rises dramatically from the sea, surrounded by the incredible scenery of Phang Nga Bay. It's one of those places that looks almost unreal in photographs, but seeing it with your own eyes makes you appreciate the natural beauty even more.
We visited James Bond Island and Khao Phing Kan, taking photographs and enjoying the scenery. Of course, with two families and four children, taking a simple family photograph was not always as easy as it sounds! Someone was always looking in the wrong direction. Someone wanted to move. Someone was hungry. Someone wanted to take another photograph. And sometimes, the funniest photographs were the ones we never planned to take. These small moments made the trip even more enjoyable.
During our visit, we also noticed some interesting local traditions and beliefs. In some places, people were offering flowers, food, incense and other items as part of their spiritual practices. Many locals believe these offerings bring blessings, good fortune and protection from higher powers. It was fascinating to see how these customs are deeply connected with Thai culture and everyday life. Although beliefs and traditions may differ from place to place, witnessing these practices gave us a deeper appreciation of Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.

Krabi and the Beautiful Phra Nang Beach
After exploring the Phang Nga Bay area, our boat continued towards Krabi. The scenery changed once again. We arrived at the beautiful Phra Nang Beach, famous for its soft sand, clear water, impressive limestone cliffs and the fascinating Phra Nang Cave.
The beach was breathtaking. The towering cliffs surrounding the beach created a dramatic natural landscape. The water was bright and inviting, and the whole area had a peaceful tropical atmosphere. Although we had already seen some incredible places during the morning, it felt as though the day was only getting better.
One of the most amazing things about this tour was the variety of scenery we experienced in a single day. We moved from mangrove forests and towering limestone formations to beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters. Every destination looked different.

Discovering the Phi Phi Islands
From Krabi, we continued towards the famous Phi Phi Islands. The Phi Phi Islands are among the most well known destinations in Thailand and it was easy to understand why when we arrived. The water was a beautiful shade of blue, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and tropical landscapes. The scenery was exactly the kind of picture many people imagine when they think about a tropical island holiday in Thailand.
During our journey through the Phi Phi Islands, we saw several famous locations, including Viking Cave, Pileh Lagoon, Loh Sama Bay and Maya Bay. Everywhere we looked, there was something beautiful to see. The boat ride itself was an experience. We travelled across the open sea, surrounded by dramatic islands rising from the water. Sometimes the sea was calm and peaceful, while at other times the speedboat bounced over the waves, creating plenty of excitement.
For the children, the speedboat ride was almost an adventure by itself. They laughed, shouted and enjoyed the excitement of travelling quickly across the water. For the adults, it was sometimes a little more challenging! But even the bumpy moments became part of the fun.

Maya Bay and the Beauty of Nature
Maya Bay was another unforgettable destination. The bay is famous around the world for its spectacular natural beauty. Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, the beach and turquoise water create an incredible tropical landscape. Standing there and looking at the scenery was one of those moments when you simply stop and appreciate where you are.
Sometimes, during a busy holiday, we rush from one attraction to another, taking photographs without really enjoying the moment. But there were moments during our boat trip when we simply looked around and thought about how lucky we were to experience such a beautiful place with our families and children.

Monkey Beach: A Unique Encounter with Nature in Phuket
Beyond the monkeys, the beach itself was surrounded by stunning tropical scenery, with clear turquoise waters, green hills, and a peaceful island atmosphere. The combination of wildlife, beautiful landscapes, and the excitement of seeing animals in their natural habitat made Monkey Beach a special highlight of our boat trip. Our guide also shared interesting information about the local environment and how these monkeys have become part of the island's unique character.
While visiting Monkey Beach, it's important to respect the wildlife by observing from a safe distance and avoiding feeding the monkeys, as they are wild animals. This short but unforgettable stop gave us a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and added another beautiful memory to our Phuket island adventure.

Lunch, Laughter and Family Memories
After exploring many beautiful locations during our Phuket island boat trip, we stopped for a buffet lunch at a charming beach side hut surrounded by beautiful scenery. Sitting near the beach with the gentle sea breeze flowing around us created a relaxing and unforgettable atmosphere. The sound of the waves, the fresh ocean air, and the peaceful coastal view made this lunch break even more special.By this time, everyone was hungry. A full day of travelling, swimming, sightseeing and exploring the stunning islands can certainly build up an appetite, especially when you are travelling with children! The buffet lunch gave everyone a wonderful opportunity to relax, recharge and enjoy some quality family time. The adults enjoyed a peaceful break while taking in the beautiful beach surroundings, while the children happily shared their excitement about everything they had already experienced during the morning’s adventures.
When families travel together, meals often become some of the most memorable moments of the journey. It is during these simple moments that we share stories, laugh about funny incidents, talk about our favourite experiences and discuss what adventures are waiting for us next.
Our lunch was no different. Surrounded by the beauty of Phuket’s coastline, we enjoyed delicious food, plenty of conversations, laughter and stories about the amazing islands we had explored. This relaxing beach side meal became another beautiful memory from our unforgettable Phuket island hopping adventure.

Swimming and Relaxing at Bamboo Island
After lunch, the adventure continued to Bamboo Island. This was one of the places where we could truly relax. The island offered beautiful clear water and a tropical beach atmosphere. After spending much of the day travelling between different destinations, it was wonderful to have time to swim, relax and enjoy the sea.
The children had a fantastic time. When children are travelling with friends, they often create their own entertainment. They played together, swam together and enjoyed the beach in their own way. For the adults, it was a chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The sea was clear and inviting and the island gave us the perfect opportunity to slow down after such a busy day.
Our Final Stop: Maiton Island
As the day began to move towards the afternoon, we made our final island stop at Maiton Island. The clear waters around Maiton Island were perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
By this stage, we had already experienced so much during the day. We had visited famous islands, explored caves and lagoons, seen incredible limestone cliffs, travelled through mangrove forests, enjoyed beautiful beaches and spent time swimming in the sea. Yet Maiton Island gave us one final opportunity to enjoy the water before heading back towards Phuket. It was a beautiful way to finish our island adventure.

The Journey Back to Phuket
Eventually, it was time to return. After spending almost the entire day on the water, everyone was tired. The children were probably exhausted from all the swimming, playing and excitement. The adults were tired too, but it was the kind of tiredness that comes after a truly wonderful day.
As the speedboat travelled back towards Phuket, we looked back at everything we had experienced. It had been a long day, beginning before sunrise and continuing until the evening. But it had also been one of the most exciting days of our holiday. We had travelled with good friends, shared the experience with our children and visited some of the most famous island destinations in Thailand. And, as with every family holiday, not everything went perfectly.
There were funny moments, unexpected incidents, moments when the children became tired, moments when someone was hungry and moments when we all laughed about things that only made sense to us. But those are often the memories that stay with us the longest.
One of the highlights of our Phuket boat trip was having an English
speaking guide with us throughout the journey. He stayed with our group,
guided us around each island, and shared interesting stories about the
local culture, beliefs, and traditions of the area. While cruising
through the crystal-clear waters and stunning island landscapes, we
learned many things that we would have missed if we had explored on our
own. His explanations added a special cultural touch to our adventure
and made our Phuket experience even more unforgettable.

More Than Just a Boat Tour
Looking back, our Phuket island hopping tour was much more than a sightseeing excursion. It was a full day of adventure, nature, family time, friendship and laughter.
We saw famous places that we had previously only seen in photographs. We swam in beautiful tropical waters, explored islands, travelled through incredible landscapes and experienced the beauty of southern Thailand from the sea. But the most special part of the experience was sharing it with another family.
Travelling with friends who had children the same age as ours made the holiday even more enjoyable. The children created their own friendships and memories, while the adults shared the happiness of watching them experience new places.
Years from now, we may not remember every single island we visited or every photograph we took. But we will remember the laughter. We will remember the children enjoying the boat ride. We will remember the funny incidents. We will remember the beautiful beaches and the incredible blue sea. And we will remember that wonderful December holiday when two families came together to explore the spectacular islands surrounding Phuket.
For anyone visiting Phuket and looking for an unforgettable day on the water, an island hopping adventure covering destinations such as James Bond Island, Hong Island, Krabi, the Phi Phi Islands, Maya Bay, Bamboo Island and Maiton Island can offer an incredible introduction to the natural beauty of Thailand's Andaman Sea. Our itinerary included sightseeing, canoeing, swimming, snorkelling, beach visits and a buffet lunch, with the exact timing subject to local weather and sea conditions.
For us, however, the true value of the journey was not simply the number of places we visited. It was the people we shared it with. Because the best travel memories are not always created by the destination alone.
Sometimes, they are created by the friends who travel beside you, the children who laugh with you, the unexpected moments that make everyone smile and the stories you continue telling long after the holiday is over. It was a very long day, but every moment was filled with something new. And our unforgettable Phuket island adventure gave us plenty of those memories.
