Chureito Pagoda in Spring: A Magical Journey Through Cherry Blossoms and Breathtaking Mount Fuji Views

Some travel dreams are so beautiful that you imagine them long before you ever reach your destination. For our family, seeing Mount Fuji surrounded by delicate cherry blossoms was one of those dreams.

Our Japanese adventure began in Tokyo, a vibrant city where modern life and traditional culture come together in fascinating ways. But after exploring the capital, we were ready for something different; a journey towards one of Japan’s most iconic natural wonders.

The following morning, we headed to Shinjuku Station to begin our journey towards Kawaguchiko, a beautiful destination near Mount Fuji. We boarded a limited express train, which was the Fuji Excursion. One of the most interesting moments came when the train separated into two sections along the way. We stayed in our carriage while the section travelling towards Kawaguchiko continued its journey.

A Magical Train Journey: Mount Fuji and Cherry Blossoms in Spring

As our train travelled towards Kawaguchiko, Mount Fuji appeared and disappeared behind the clouds, giving us occasional glimpses of its magnificent beauty. The snow-covered summit, rising high above the surrounding landscape, was truly breathtaking. Every time the mountain came into view, it felt like a special moment we didn't want to miss.

As we travelled closer to Kawaguchiko, the scenery became even more magical. Cherry blossom trees lined both sides of the railway, transforming the landscape into a beautiful spring wonderland. Delicate white blossoms were especially striking, with soft pink and white flowers adding splashes of color among them.

It felt almost like travelling through heaven, surrounded by flowers in full bloom, with the majestic Mount Fuji appearing in the distance. The combination of snow-capped mountain peaks, fluffy clouds and endless cherry blossoms created a scene straight out of a postcard.

Inside the train, everyone seemed eager to capture the perfect photograph. Cameras and mobile phones were ready whenever Mount Fuji appeared between the clouds or the cherry blossoms framed the passing scenery. Even with the train moving, passengers tried their best to capture those fleeting moments of beauty.

Mount Fuji glimpsed through the train window.

For us, the journey itself became part of the adventure. We had set out to see Mount Fuji surrounded by spring blossoms and even before reaching Kawaguchiko, Japan was already giving us glimpses of the dream we had come to experience.
Sometimes, the journey to a destination is just as beautiful as the destination itself. And our spring train ride towards Mount Fuji was a perfect reminder of that.

Fuji Excursion Train: Tips for Travelling from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko

Travelling from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko by the Fuji Excursion train was an unforgettable part of our Japan spring adventure. Luckily, we booked our tickets in advance, which made our journey much more comfortable and stress-free.

We noticed more passengers boarding at stations along the way and we were glad we had arranged our seats beforehand. During the busy cherry blossom season, this popular route can be in high demand.

My travel tip:

📌 Book your Fuji Excursion train tickets in advance, especially if you're visiting Mount Fuji during cherry blossom season! The train has reserved seating, so planning ahead is the best way to secure seats together for your family and enjoy a comfortable journey.

📌 You can check schedules and ticket reservations through the official "Fuji Excursion train website"

📌 A little preparation can make your Japan trip much smoother, leaving you free to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery on the way to Kawaguchiko.

Arriving at Kawaguchiko Station and Discovering Our Dream Accommodation

Finally, we arrived at Kawaguchiko Station, excited to explore the beautiful surroundings of Mount Fuji. However, our journey was not quite over yet!

As soon as we reached the station, we noticed a queue of people waiting for taxis. It seemed that getting a taxi in this area was not as easy as we had expected. There were only a few taxis available and they arrived at intervals of around 10 minutes.
We tried to book a taxi using the apps, but unfortunately, we couldn't manage to get one that way. There were buses waiting nearby as well, but since we were unfamiliar with the routes and didn't know which bus would take us to our accommodation, we decided not to take the risk.

So, we joined the taxi queue and waited patiently for approximately 30-40 minutes before finally getting a taxi. Although it was a little frustrating after our journey, we were relieved when we finally found one. Luckily, our accommodation was not far from Kawaguchiko Station, so the taxi ride was relatively short.
But the moment we arrived at our accommodation, all the waiting and inconvenience seemed completely forgotten.

A Special Stay with a Dreamy Mount Fuji View

And what a wonderful place it was!
Our accommodation was nestled on a small hill, offering beautiful views of Lake Kawaguchiko and the surrounding village on one side. The peaceful setting and lovely scenery immediately made us feel that we had found something truly special.
But the most extraordinary feature of our stay was the magnificent Mount Fuji view right from our window and balcony.

Imagine waking up in the morning, opening the curtains and finding Japan’s most iconic mountain welcoming you to a brand-new day. The snow-covered summit, the peaceful surroundings and the breathtaking scenery made the moment feel almost unreal.
We could simply stand by the window or step out onto the balcony and admire Mount Fuji without having to go anywhere.

It was one of those rare travel experiences when you stop everything for a moment, take a deep breath and appreciate how beautiful the world can be.
Sometimes, the accommodation itself becomes one of the most memorable parts of a journey. For us, this was definitely one of those places.

Staying here was not just about having a comfortable place to spend the night. It was about waking up to an unforgettable view, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and feeling as though we were living inside a beautiful Japanese postcard.
Our dream of seeing Mount Fuji was becoming even more special and this wonderful accommodation made the experience truly unforgettable.

Exploring a Traditional Japanese Village Near Mount Fuji

After arriving at our beautiful villa with its breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, we still had plenty of time to enjoy the evening. Rather than staying indoors, we decided to explore the surrounding area and get a feel for the local village.

Our villa was nestled among a traditional Japanese village, making it a wonderful opportunity for our children to experience a glimpse of everyday life in Japan. We set off on foot, wandering along the quiet village streets and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

During our walk, we came across OGINO Kawaguchiko Store, a local shopping destination. We spent some time looking around and exploring the shops. Of course, we couldn't resist trying some traditional Japanese sweet bean buns. It was a lovely little experience and a chance to enjoy some local flavours.

What made the walk even more special was the magnificent Mount Fuji, which seemed to follow us wherever we went. From different streets and corners of the village, the mountain appeared from different angles, creating beautiful views that we couldn't stop photographing.

We ended up taking hundreds of pictures, each capturing a different perspective of this iconic mountain. It was more than just an evening walk; it was an opportunity to experience the charm of a traditional Japanese neighbourhood, introduce our children to everyday Japanese life and enjoy the beauty of Mount Fuji beyond the usual tourist viewpoints.

Sometimes, the most memorable travel experiences are not planned attractions but the simple moments spent exploring somewhere new. This peaceful evening near Mount Fuji became one of our unforgettable family memories.

Early Morning Journey to the Iconic Chureito Pagoda

The next morning, we had one special destination in mind ; the iconic "Chureito Pagoda", one of the most photographed landmarks in the Mount Fuji region. Famous for its breathtaking combination of the five-storied red pagoda, Mount Fuji and beautiful cherry blossoms, it was a place we were really looking forward to visiting.

We had already caught a glimpse of the crowds the previous day. While travelling by train to Kawaguchiko, we noticed thousands of visitors gathering along the cherry blossom-lined pathways, patiently waiting for their turn to visit this famous viewpoint. Seeing those crowds made us realise that an early start would be essential if we wanted to enjoy the place without too much rush.

So, we decided to set off early in the morning. The walk from our accommodation to Kawaguchiko Station turned out to be a beautiful experience in itself. The roads were lined with gorgeous cherry blossom trees, transforming the streets into a lovely springtime scene. We couldn't resist stopping several times to capture the beauty around us.

For the first time, we had the chance to admire the cherry blossoms up close, especially the delicate clusters of flowers hanging from the branches. Seeing the individual blossoms and their beautiful arrangements was even more fascinating than viewing them from a distance. We took some wonderful photographs, trying to capture every little detail of this magical spring scenery. It was one of those lovely travel moments when even a simple walk becomes a memorable part of the journey.

A little travel tip:

📌If you are planning to visit Chureito Pagoda during cherry blossom season, try to arrive early in the morning. It is an extremely popular photography spot, and visiting early can give you a better chance to enjoy the scenery before the crowds build up.

A Magical Walk to Chureito Pagoda Among Cherry Blossoms

We took a taxi from Kawaguchiko Station and were dropped off at Shimoyoshida Station, where we began our walk towards the amazing Chureito Pagoda. Arriving early in the morning was a wonderful decision, as the area was still relatively quiet, allowing us to enjoy the peaceful surroundings before the crowds arrived. There are buses and trains available for visitors travelling to this attraction, but we chose a taxi because we wanted to get there as early as possible and make the most of the morning.

Our walk took us through a charming Japanese village, passing small local shops, vegetable gardens, and glimpses of everyday village life. There was something truly special about wandering through these quiet streets, experiencing a side of Japan that felt so different from the busy city atmosphere.

After a short walk, we reached the steps leading up the hill to Chureito Pagoda. This was where the real magic began! Delicate pink and white flowers covered the trees, creating an enchanting atmosphere along the pathway. For a few moments, we almost forgot where we were. It felt as though we had stepped into a heavenly place, surrounded by nature's most beautiful creations.

Starting the climb to Chureito Pagoda through cherry blossoms

Honestly, I have no words to describe the beauty of that moment. Sometimes, photographs can capture a view, but they can never truly express the feelings you experience when standing in such a breathtaking place. We saw many visitors stopping to admire the blossoms, take beautiful photographs and simply enjoy the magical scenery. Everyone seemed captivated by the beauty of the flowers and it was easy to understand why.

Climbing to Chureito Pagoda Through a Dream of Cherry Blossoms

As we began climbing the steps towards the breathtaking Chureito Pagoda, we felt as though we had stepped into a beautiful dream. It was such a peaceful and unforgettable experience, almost like walking through a world filled with flowers.

Cherry blossom petals gently floated through the air, occasionally brushing against our faces like delicate snowflakes. The entire pathway was surrounded by beautiful blossoms, creating a magical atmosphere that made every step feel special. It was not just a climb to a famous sightseeing destination; it was a beautiful journey and we wanted to enjoy every moment of it.

There was so much to discover as we made our way uphill. We came across the beautiful Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine, nestled among the cherry blossoms. We stopped there to pay our respects, worship and receive blessings by performing some traditional rituals. It was a peaceful and meaningful moment during our climb, allowing us to experience a little of Japan's rich spiritual and cultural heritage. Surrounded by nature and the gentle beauty of spring, the shrine felt like a special place to pause before continuing our journey towards the magnificent Chureito Pagoda.

Our children also found plenty of reasons to enjoy the walk! Along the way, we spotted several small food stalls and snack shops. Of course, they couldn't resist trying some Japanese snacks and chips. These little stops made the climb even more enjoyable for the whole family.

There were also several beautiful photography spots along the pathway, offering wonderful opportunities to capture the cherry blossoms and surrounding scenery. But believe me, some views were so extraordinary that photographs could hardly do them justice.

One of the most breathtaking moments came when we caught sight of Mount Fuji standing majestically in the distance, its summit covered in snow. The mountain appeared almost perfect against the beautiful spring scenery. Seeing Mount Fuji through the traditional red torii gate was particularly magical. The combination of the iconic gate, delicate cherry blossoms and Fuji's snow-covered peak created a picture-perfect view that we will never forget.

After enjoying the scenery and taking plenty of photographs, we continued our climb. It took us approximately 30-40 minutes to reach the magnificent Chureito Pagoda, including our leisurely stops along the way.

Finally, we arrived at the pagoda and found a bench a little in front of it. Sitting there for a while, we simply enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and admired the spectacular view. With Mount Fuji in the background and cherry blossoms adding their delicate beauty, it was one of those rare travel moments when you just want to sit back, breathe deeply and appreciate how beautiful the world can be.

The Dream View of Mount Fuji from Chureito Pagoda

There is a famous viewpoint above Chureito Pagoda that you have probably seen countless times if you search for Chureito Pagoda on Google. The photographs showing the majestic Mount Fuji, the iconic red pagoda and a sea of cherry blossoms are truly unforgettable.

But seeing this breathtaking scenery with our own eyes was something entirely different. This was one of our dream destinations and finally, we were standing right there, experiencing the view we had admired in photographs for so long.

Honestly, it was absolutely worth the visit!
Standing before the magnificent Mount Fuji, with its snow-covered summit rising above what seemed like a cloud of flowers, was an extraordinary experience. The cherry blossoms surrounded the landscape like a beautiful floral cloud, creating a scene so magical that I struggled to find the right words to describe it.

Sometimes, the most beautiful travel experiences leave you speechless. This was definitely one of those moments.
Luckily, we arrived before the crowds became overwhelming. We had enough time to enjoy the spectacular scenery and take some wonderful family photographs. However, within just a few minutes, the viewpoint became crowded with visitors eager to capture the same iconic view.

As the number of people increased, staff members and guards began managing the crowds and setting up barriers to control access to the viewpoint. It was easy to understand why this place attracts so many visitors, especially during cherry blossom season.
After spending some unforgettable moments admiring the scenery and capturing our memories, we decided it was time to make our way down.

Walking Back Through a Different Path

One interesting thing to know about visiting Chureito Pagoda is that there are two ways to reach the pagoda area: the famous staircase and an alternative pathway. Although we had climbed up using the steps, we decided to take the pathway on our way down. We thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to experience a different route and enjoy more of the surrounding nature.

And what a beautiful decision it was!
The pathway offered another lovely experience, surrounded by cherry blossoms and peaceful scenery. As we walked, we felt as though we were slowly disappearing into a world of flowers.

Our children couldn't resist touching the soft cherry blossom petals and admiring the delicate flowers along the way. In some places, fallen petals covered the ground like a beautiful floral carpet. It almost felt as though we were walking through a dream, with flowers scattered everywhere around us.

The gentle breeze carried more petals through the air, creating a magical atmosphere that made the entire walk feel special. Every corner seemed to offer another beautiful scene and we found ourselves stopping frequently to admire the surroundings. Taking the alternative path was not simply a way to avoid the stairs; it became another memorable part of our Chureito Pagoda adventure.

Looking back, the entire experience was filled with unforgettable moments; from climbing the steps through cherry blossoms and visiting Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine to witnessing the iconic Mount Fuji viewpoint and wandering back through a world of flowers.

Chureito Pagoda is truly a place where nature, culture and breathtaking scenery come together. If you are planning a spring visit to Japan, especially during cherry blossom season, this is one destination I would wholeheartedly recommend.

The photographs are beautiful, but the feeling of standing there, surrounded by blossoms and looking towards majestic Mount Fuji, is something you simply have to experience yourself.

Our Next Adventure: Discovering the Traditional Village of Oshino Hakkai

Since we had visited Chureito Pagoda quite early in the morning, we still had plenty of time left to explore more of this beautiful region. We didn't want to waste such a lovely day, so we decided to head to another place on our travel wish list; Oshino Hakkai, a traditional Japanese village near Mount Fuji.

After enjoying our time at Chureito Pagoda, we walked back to Shimoyoshida Station and took a taxi to the village. We were excited to discover another side of traditional Japan and once again, we weren't disappointed!
Oshino Hakkai was absolutely beautiful, with its charming village atmosphere and scenery that made us feel as though we had stepped back in time. It turned out to be another memorable experience for our family.

But I don't want to squeeze all those wonderful moments into this already long story! Oshino Hakkai deserves a separate article of its own.
So, let's save a little adventure for next time! Join us in our next story as we explore the charming village of Oshino Hakkai and discover why this beautiful place near Mount Fuji is well worth a visit.
